Results window
Select Window | Results to access this window.
The results window lists all available simulation outputs (refer to simulation output settings) and typically acts as the main control when browsing, plotting and creating tables after a simulation completed.
Results from a simulation are delivered in a folder with the date and type of simulation. When you run multiple simulations (see scenarios), one folder for each simulation will appear with the name of the scenario.
Within the folder, results are organised by sub-system. Click the + symbol next to the name to expand folders.
When a new simulation is started, all results from the previous simulation are removed. Charts and tables will automatically update with the latest simulation results. However, if you wish to save results between simulations you can do so by creating archives (see below). This way you can compare results from different simulations.
It is also possible to export or import simulation results; see Importing and exporting data.
Quick view
When outputs are selected a table and a chart is created automatically. The name of the chart or table is named quick view. If you find this feature annoying, you can turn it off by clicking the quick view title bar buttons (see below). Keep the CTRL key pressed while selecting outputs to include several outputs in the same chart or table.
Archives
Archives can be created by right-clicking a simulation result and choosing Create archive… from the menu that appears. You will be asked for a name for the archive, and you will see how the symbol next to the result changes.
The archive will remain when you run a new simulation. This way you can plot results from both the latest simulation and the archive in the same chart.
Title bar
The title bar has short-cuts for common tasks:
Turns quick view on or off for charts. For probabilistic simulations with many iterations, automatic quick views will make browsing simulation results unpleasant. | |
Turns quick view on or off for tables. |
Searching
The drop down lists below the title bar can be used to search for blocks with specific properties. Click the More button for more search options.
Search | Type the name, or part of the name, that you are looking for. |
Type | Select the type of block or - All types - to ignore the type. |
Indices | Select an index (for instance a material) to display outputs relevant to this index. Select - Scalar - to display only results with no dependencies. |
Creating charts and tables
After a simulation has completed, all available simulation outputs are listed in the results window.
The charts window and the tables window are used to display simulation outputs. When simulation results are selected in the results window a chart and a table is automatically created. There are many types of charts and tables to present data.
Menu
To display the menu, right click anywhere inside the window. Note that the options to create charts and tables only appear if you have selected a simulation output.
